About

Ephesus Field Notes is written by the guiding team at Gezginol Travel, a Turkish travel agency registered with TÜRSAB under licence number 15746 and based in Kuşadası, about twenty-five minutes from the gates of Ephesus.

We run private tours at Ephesus and across Türkiye. Our guides hold national guiding licences issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and most of them are on this site several days a week through the season.

Why this blog exists

The same good questions come up on the walk up Curetes Street every week, and there is never quite enough time to answer them properly while a group is standing in the sun.

So we write them down here at length: how long the site really takes, which ticket is worth the money, why some visitors leave disappointed, what is still buried under the fields, and which of the stories guides tell are documented and which are tradition.

These are field notes rather than a brochure. Where we do not know something, we say so. Where a popular story is unproven, we say that too.

What we do commercially, stated plainly

We are a tour operator, and this blog links to the websites we run. That is not hidden — you will find our tours linked in most articles, because a good number of readers are trying to decide how to spend a day at Ephesus and a private guided day is one of the honest answers to that question.

How we work:

Private tours only. No coaches, no fixed groups, no waiting for strangers.

Entrance tickets bought in advance, so you walk past the queue at the gate. The ticket cost itself is paid separately and we tell you the current price before you commit.

No prepayment to ask a question. Tell us your dates and we will tell you honestly whether we are free and whether the plan you have in mind actually works.

We will say when something is a bad idea. Pamukkale on a short cruise call, for instance, or three consecutive days of ruins.

About shops and workshops

Many guests enjoy seeing a carpet, leather, ceramic or jewellery atelier while they are in Türkiye, and we are glad to include one. The addresses we use are recommended and insured. Nobody will hurry you and nobody will press you to buy — and if you would rather give the whole day to the sights, simply say so and we will.

The websites we run

Gezginol operates a family of destination sites, each covering a different region or theme. The full list is on our websites page, and the main ones are:
